Hi from NPNA, Carole and Leanna here.

37:26
Community Agreements:------A reminder of our Community Agreements- Amplify Black experiences-Keep your phone or device muted if you’re not talking-If you’re able to, please turn your camera on-Step up, step back-One mic, one voice-Not a debate - we’re here to share and listen

41:41
QUESTION: 1. Why do you believe the Black people in Long Beach are disproportionately experiencing housing challenges? (facilitators note: we said earlier they are experiencing rent burden, homelessness, formerly incarcerated folks can’t get Section 8 etc)2. Covid-19 has caused spikes of underemployment and unemployment, and people were struggling before that. Black people are most likely to experience homelessness, and Black Women are most likely to be rent-burdened. As a response there have been national movements around Cancelling Rent & Rent Repayment or assistance plans. What are your thoughts about this for residents of Long Beach?3. What are some innovations you have heard of or know about that have helped people stay in their homes or get housing?4. Home is more than 4 walls and a roof. Where we call “home” includes your neighborhood and your neighbors. What makes a neighborhood safe, stable, peaceful, beautiful, and vibrant?

the Eastside of LB has been suffering at such a rate over the past 15 year!!!

01:11:24
Agree! LB needs to stop displacing long term residents of color with its land use policies that seem to be tailored to bring in white higher income residents.

01:11:50
Yes!!! thank you

01:12:16
housing is a direct correlation with recidivism

01:13:09
City Council fears white outrage over development in the Eastside, K-Mart property at Spring and Bellflower, this keeps racists policy’s going here in LB.

01:13:15
the recidivism rate for people of color is systemically designed...it has to stop

01:13:51
The city’s proposed inclusionary housing policy leaves out east LB

01:14:21
We need leadership here in LB and the mayor and council operate in fear.

01:14:27
and it targets affordable units to moderate income folks not extremely low income

01:14:41
we need to target housing to those most in need

01:14:50
an international tourist sites resides on the Eastside and it has yet to be given its dues and attention

01:15:32
defund the policy and fund restorative uses

01:16:09
why? the bkack owned business owners are asking for support and have yet to receive it. how can the business survive if our people have been pushed out

01:16:31
👍🏻

01:16:48
that should have said defund the police (not policies)

01:18:09
I'm working to offer financial Literacy programming on the east side and WE NEED HELP. community-based programs for youth of color is little to none on the Eastside

01:18:46
talk again please?

I agree. Budget cuts to the mental health and mena

01:25:48
mental health clients are being discharged into day program and left to fend for themselves

01:26:17
where did the funding go from the closure of mental health facilities

01:28:06
Agree!!!

01:28:20
Yes!!!

01:29:30
Re-evaluate MOUs and contracts with large corporations that manage leasing agencies to regulate fair housing

01:32:23
YES YES YES - enforce Fair Housing

01:32:51
Universal Basic Income for households below a certain income threshold, paid for by a reduced LBPD budget

01:33:37
and waive fees to file for unlawful evictions and more assistance in self-help centers

01:33:38
Adopt the LB People’s Budget too, which asks for a right to counsel for tenants and a rental housing division in the development services dept.

01:36:01
please look into city of LB Homeless Division and project room key funded be a recent grant award. individuals are being treat unfairly and confined, like prisoners. how are the funds assist with the future

01:43:33
please note, redevelopment wasn’t all good. it had an ugly underbelly. while 20% of RDA monies were for building affordable housing the other 80% was used for market rate development that caused gentrification and displacement

01:45:33
Demand is in downtown because of the downtown plan the city adopted which created incentives to developers for luxury housing and high end commercial uses

01:46:42
The City literally created that demand with its land use planning, which was racist. The City’s own market study showed that the downtown plan would displace 75% of the existing long term, low income residents of color

01:46:58
I appreciate this session, but the city needs to own its role in all this

01:47:36
Thank you Tom. The owner of V.I.P. Records would like to revisit this discussion and the space that V.I.P. was lost. Are you open to this? How can I assist with facilitating this support.

01:48:26
